Geforce GTX 1080ti in Forza Horizon 4 - 1080p, 1440p, 4K and 5K | Ultra - High Settings

Intro

Welcome back to another article and this one my friends I’m going to be testing a Geforce GTX 1080ti in Forza Horizon 4. I’m running it with the latest Nvidia drivers 471.68 at the time of writing this article and I’m also not overclocking it as you can see right here this is the Asus Strix version of the card it comes already overclocked out of the box by a little bit and I’m running it with the Ryzen 9 5900x and 32 gigabytes of RAM as you can see right there in Geforce experience. In this article i will tell you what is the performance of  Geforce GTX 1080ti in Forza Horizon 4.

1080p

So let's get right into the game, shall we? first of all, let's go through the settings real quick I’m playing at 1080p resolution we're also going to test this one at 1440p 4k and 5k resolutions and we're using the extreme settings as you can see. Let's do this it's looking very pretty already, wait for a second oh there's another car here, what? okay, all right so it seems like the 1080p performance is pretty damn good if you're running a 1080p monitor with the GTX 1080ti.

You already know that you can pretty much run everything at Ultra settings right now with 60 or more FPS maybe a few less well-optimized games like Cyberpunk 2077 won't really run that well at Ultra settings in 1080p resolution using a GTX 1080ti, but well this card is still a beast and I like its performance even in 2021. You can check out my review that I did I think last year it runs everything still which is amazing for a five-year-old card, at this point racing is a little bit more intensive in Forza Horizon 4.

You probably know you got to render all of the cars on the screen and it gets a little bit more demanding, let's see it's still no problem at 1080p of course not that I expected there to be a problem with the GTX 1080ti and Forza Horizon 4. This is a very well-optimized title, but it's just I don't know It's awesome, the experience is awesome with the GTX 1080 and I think everybody expected that I already tested for example the GTX 1080ti performance was incredible still I think it got like 145 FPS average at 1080p resolution.

We're getting like 105 with this one do remember that if you want the higher refresh rate experience in this game you can always drop the settings to like Ultra or High, I think you gain at least 50 FPS with this card by dropping the settings from Extreme to High, for example, of course, the game won't look as good and I’d probably choose this experience right here. You're seeing it because it's so gorgeous.

But if you must have the higher refresh rate this may be still buttery smooth, don't get me wrong even if you're running a 240 Hz monitor, 100 FPS on average, it's just amazing.

1440p

Let's do a few 1440p so 2560x1440 everything is still the same over here and let me just restart the event, FPS in the 70s there at the start but the cutscene is always a little bit more intensive than the actual gameplay. We're rendering all of the cars on the screen and it's still a smooth experience, in my opinion, you don't need more than 60 FPS in these games, maybe if you want to play them more competitively Forza Horizon 4 competitively to be honest like is that even a thing I will just enjoy the beautiful graphics 1440p resolution seems to be very adequate for the GTX 1080.

It's been very adequate for a GTX 1080ti since 2016 when it launched so it's very incredible guys, these Pascal GPUs aged well in my opinion, of course, this game is from 2018. I think and it was well optimized back then but still, the GTX 1080ti runs the latest titles at 1440p with ease, it's beautiful, it's amazing I love it. If you want to extract a little bit more performance from your GTX 1080ti you can always overclock it a little bit further than I did, I didn't so you can overclock it and achieve higher frames, of course, you could gain like 5 more FPS but then the GPU will run hotter.

It will consume more power and I prefer to leave it at a stock like this 69 degrees Celsius. It’s is just amazing there so why change it, right, there we go that was a beautiful turn guy sometimes I can do some things properly but most of the time I can't. Looking beautiful by the way the trees seem to be a little bit more intensive as you can see it's dropping down into the lower 80s, which was close and higher 70s but it's still pretty playable more than playable.

It's a flawless experience at 1440p right it's just amazing, it's really good, also bushes are intensive as you can see if you get very close to vegetation your FPS will drop by a little bit but nothing serious.

4K

Let's change the resolution to 2160p or 4K just going to resize that there we go that's much better and everything else of course still the same on extreme settings and this is where the 1080ti will start struggling a little bit but it's still playable. It is below 60 FPS and I’m just going to go here to see the FPS dropping with the bushes and stuff the 40s it's still awesome though and it looks so damn sharp right now.

You know what? this is a very beautiful place as well can we run, we can drive over the tree okay nice, anyway, it only drops into the lower or mid-40s not even lower 40s and this is 4k. So, that's crazy good, I got to choose a new car now, so cool guys it's so detailed like even the motor is detailed and you never look at it almost. I think, yes this is a race all right dropping into the 30s there in the beginning cutscene but it went back up into the mid-40s, so, no problems and just wow! I mean it's not more intensive than the other area where we were, you know with the trees and stuff, so amazing this is awesome.

We're going to finish first place at 4K resolution and if you drop the settings to like Ultra or High, it's going to perform even better it's going to be a 60 plus FPS experience all of the time, so that's just insane at 4K resolution, guys it's only using 5.3 Gigabytes of VRAM as well, so, that's also very nice and there we go, first place is our hell yes why am I watching an entire movie that I can skip.

5K

Here we go guys I’m going to go ahead and choose the infamous 5K resolution and there's only like a single monitor that runs 5K. I’m running the SR, by the way, to run at this high res. so, 5120 by 2880 that's insane okay and I think it's still going to be playable because it's showing 30s. Wow! this is so detailed right now guys just I’m going to stop I’m going to stand still I’m going to render this article in 4k so you can see all of the details as well look at that as the shadows, these are amazing and you can tell they're not real-time although they try to be so, give them a break there we go I gave them a break but all of these little tiles you know they didn't need to be that detailed but they are it's so awesome at 5k resolution.

It is just amazing guys let's move on let's try to find another event this might be somewhat of a demanding area because it's a city and it has more details than the other cities or little towns that we've been to already. Can I break these things? I can, good, I usually really like the nature side of this game and stuff but this is so beautiful here in this city. Let me just stop here take a look at the details it's gorgeous and this is for the Forza Horizon 4.

The fifth one is coming this year I can't wait to test it out in all of my GPUs guys. Now, I would play like this probably not, maybe with a controller and with locked FPS and I’d probably still overclock this card just a little bit so it can handle 30 plus all of the time because it might drop here and there. The beautiful architecture of this city right here is what happens, don't play at 5k resolution because you will get distracted with all of the little details.

I’m supposed to be in a race right now and I can't even see the other car anymore even on the map that's how far behind I am but it's gorgeous and it's still doable above 30 FPS, so, before we do finish it, I’m just going to end it right there thank you very much for reading this article. I hope you guys enjoyed it don't comment on your queries if you have any related to this article and I'll catch you in the next one very soon look at the details in the shadows though that's awesome that's nice, so as always I love you all bye-bye.

We're using the latest Nvidia drivers 472.12. This one is the MSI gaming X version of the card, it comes already overclocked out of the box, and I’m not pushing it further as I am telling you here, and as usual, I’m running it on a Ryzen 9 5900X and 32 Gigabytes of RAM to avoid any CPU or RAM bottlenecks, after all, we are testing the GPU here. So, we don't want to bottleneck it if we did bottleneck it we would be testing the CPU.
