Call of Duty Vanguard on GTX 970 at 1080p - With and Without FSR

Call of Duty Vanguard on GTX 970 at 1080p - With and Without FSR

Intro

Welcome back to another article, in this my friends I’m going to be testing the Geforce GTX 970 in Call of Duty Vanguard Beta. We're running it using the latest Nvidia drivers 472.12. This one is the Asus Strix version of the card I’m not overclocking it over stock speeds by the way this is already factory overclocked. I’m running it using a Ryzen 9 5900x and 32 gigabytes of RAM, you should get the same FPS if you pair it with something like a Ryzen 3 3100 or something of the likes.

1080p Low Settings – No FSR

So, let's get right into it, shall we? first of all, let's go through the settings real quick. We're playing using the very low settings and I set the texture resolution to low instead of very low because it makes a huge difference on how the game looks, it looks like rapper very low. It looks kind of decent on low, to be honest, and everything else is set to the minimum, I also enabled the cash spot shadows and cash sun shadows because they do give us like a couple more FPS. We're also running it at 1080p resolution.

I’m going to test it out using FSR VA a little bit later in the article today. We're actually playing with CW he's a friend of mine and he's playing on Xbox so let's see who does better here, okay, yeah and there we go.

Let's do this, oh he's very quick aiming downsides that's for sure. Let's start counting our FPS and wow I actually expected it to be way lower than what we're getting right now, you know that's more like it dropping into the 40s it seems like it's performing slightly better than the GTX 1650 which is quite a surprise because in newer titles 1650 is sometimes a little bit better. I wouldn't really play this game without FSR enabled from what I’ve seen so far in other GPU.

I’m just getting wrecked today FSR does make it look better because it gets sharper you know and it's super blurry. It also makes the game run a heck of a lot better as well, so, I don't really see a reason to not use the SR of FSR actually. It's dropping into the 50s very often you know what I like in these games that allow us to play with our friends on other platforms it's great, I really hope that more games do that holy crap too many of them just going to try to get the rest of them where are they.

Maybe they're all dead now, so, 1% Lows are closer at 49 and it's a playable experience, but it's not 60 plus all of the time. You really should aim for that if you're playing Call of Duty titles any of them.

It dropped very much there, 1% Lows are at 30 right now and the minimums at 26. This game has a massive issue with the particle effects, you know whenever there are particles on the screen you just drop FPS all over the place it also happens with my 3060ti, so it's not because of the GTX 970 being old or something, it's just the game is not really that well optimized.

It's still a Beta as well you got to keep that in mind, but again you have the option to play with FSR so I'll definitely recommend that guess. We're going to win this one actually and I also think were you actually killing him or was he killing you I I don't know.

FSR Enabled

1080p Low – Low FSR

Let's go most of the time I actually don't win in this game but today we're doing great. I finished first place we got 23 kills I don't even see my friend, it happens sometimes I also have my bad days, okay maybe he should try PC gaming sometime.

Okay let's enable FSR for that you go into the config files which is in your documents folder and Call of Duty Vanguard Beta you change this one which should be set off by default to AMD FSR1.0 and I will set this one to Ultra quality right here, because in this preset at 1080p it actually makes everything sharper. We're now utilizing FSR you can already see in this screen or lobby.

I don't know that the image is actually sharper than native 1080p and we're getting more FPS  as well I think we were getting like 40 now we're at 60. I can notice a lot more shimmering around things at least here but I prefer this look to the softer look like you smeared Vaseline all over your screen, you know this looks a little bit better to me at least and FPS wise it's actually pretty similar so far at least maybe slightly better.

It should be better, it should also not drop as much as it did, I thought I was going to get that one I also want to see explosions you know explosions are just the FPS killers of this game, I hate this map because of this you know first of all it's way too open. It does drop still as you can see here with the particle effects once again into the 50s. It's still in beta remember that, but I think GTX 1650 with FSR did a much better job here with the GTX 970. Well, it might not scale as well with those new technologies.

I don't know also as you do need to go into config files to enable FSR in this game that means that the implementation is still not finished maybe when it's finished, it's going to runway better than it is right now. Especially, on these older cards, I don't know I really hope so because I know that the GTX 970 can do way better than this I think you'll have to lower the FSR setting if you want 60 plus all of the time all right there.

1080p Low – FSR Ultra

Now I’m going to use maximum quality here which is one step down from vulture quality kind of weird you know I feel like maximum should be the maximum kind yeah I don't know at these settings you can see that the bushes and stuff they don't look good especially at the distance and especially against the background of the game like this is not very good looking, yeah, everything here is also way softer, it doesn't look very good but we're getting a 100 plus FPS  right now which is kind of insane as compared to what we were getting before at least. So, 1% Lows are at 73 right now.

It's still playable you can still see people pretty well it's not like you're playing at 800 by 600, you know so, I think I can actually recommend this if you must have 60 plus FPS  all of the time. I totally prefer to play this at FSR with these settings instead of dropping the resolution to like 900p, for example, I think it will still look a little bit better like this and of course, you do retain that sharpness in the hood as well. 1% Lows are at 64 that's pretty good and the minimum is at 55.

It only dropped once to that probably an explosion or something and the averages are just below 100 FPS, so, that's really good guys.

That's been it for the GTX 970 article in Vanguard hope you guys enjoyed this and I'll catch you in the next one very soon as always love you all bye-bye.

So, we don't want to bottleneck it if we did bottleneck it we would be testing the CPU.
